What People Say

Most Liked

Diners rave about Mom And Pops’ incredible hospitality—staff greet you like family. The buffet on the first Sunday of each month is a highlight, bringing everyone together for a communal feast. Guests love the authentic soul food flavors, particularly the tender baked chicken and well-seasoned black-eyed peas. The cornbread earns accolades for its fluffy texture and subtle sweetness. Many customers consider the sweet potato pie a must-try; it's rumored to be a blissful 'sleeping pill.' Overall, patrons appreciate the generous portions and affordable prices, ensuring they leave fully satisfied.

Most Disliked

Some visitors find the lack of extensive seating a bit cramped, especially during peak dining hours. Others mention that with the restaurant being family-run, occasional busy days may lead to longer wait times. A few have pointed out that not all dishes cater to traditional BBQ expectations, creating moments of surprise for those unfamiliar with soul food. A minor complaint has emerged about the restaurant’s preference for fresh produce over seasoned greens with traditional meats, which some traditional enthusiasts might miss. Nevertheless, these minor quirks don’t overshadow the overall positive experience.

6/1/2025: We stopped in Meridian MS on Our way to The NOLA because we were famished! The good lord works in mysterious ways and we were not disappointed! The food was amazing and even better than that we found out this is a family run restaurant!!! We had the blessing to learn they were celebrating the Queen Mother Matriarch in their family turning 109 years old tomorrow June 2nd 2025 🙌🏾❤️❤️🙏🏾🙏🏾 They serve a buffet style meal the 1st Sunday of every month and their whole family and church family eat and fellowship together which is truly a beautiful thing! This is a must STOP spot if your ever in the area! The only points I have to deduct is the good brother told me he is a cowbum fan 🙃🤦🏾‍♂️BUT I still took a picture with him and his cousin who served us the wonderful meal! I give this family owned restaurant 10 Thumps up 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

We know how I love my mom and pop spots and yes lawd this has become my new stop on my way home from Alabama games . The customer service was great but they also give you your money's worth. The meat was just falling off the neckbones, the flavor was perfect, and the sides were filling. The sweet potato pie don't eat until you get home because it's the last part of the sleeping pill... Hubby had red beans and sausage w/rice which he really didn't want to share but baby that homemade skillet cornbread was icing on the cake. Thank you Mom and Pop's for sharing some wonderful food with us

Delicious food! We’re from France and we’ve been traveling for two weeks in the South Nashville, Memphis, New Oleans ect, and this is the second best restaurant if not best we have done during our stay. I got the Chiltering, my mom the neck bone, she loved it!

We had a 2 week trip from Alabama to Arizona and back and this is the last place we will be stopping at to eat before we get back home. We wanted something "local", and that is what we have been doing from State to State across the country. We heard "soul food", and since it was 3pm and we had not had lunch, we were hungry to the soul. We also read the great reviews right here on Google. We stepped in, and heard an immediate "Good afternoon, how are yall?". I am guessing this is "Mom", and immediately we felt warm, wanted, and cared about. Well, I don't have have enough time to really write this the way I would like to, as we are in the parking lot and need to get on the road, but: The service was kind and super friendly, and they didn't mind giving me menu advice. We ordered both the baked chicken and the turkey wings. Yes wings. I didn't even know to add that to my bucket list, yet there it was.... We had black eyed peas, collard greens, mashed potatoes, and cornbread along with the proteins. The chicken was perfect, very tender and very flavorful. The meat fell off the bone. The turkey wing was my order and I liked it even more than the chicken. It was GOOD, and now I think something else to add to my list of "foods I love". The collards were AMAZING. There was no bitterness, and they don't use pork and meat in their veggies. It was clean, yet juicy and SO GOOD. The mashed potatoes blew me away. They were full of flavor and also not drenched with butter as you so often see. They were homemade and GREAT, and the cornbread was soft, fluffy, and only had just a touch of sweetness. They were perfect actually. Not dry at ALL, and thats not easy to pull off. That leads me to the BLACK EYED PEAS. They are the best I have ever had. This, and I eat black eyed peas anytime I see them or can easily eat them. They were soft, flavorful, perfectly seasoned, and once again, had no pork or meat in them so they were "clean" while having the best flavor I have ever tasted for black eyed peas. What a way to end our trip. I told the man helping with our order about how much we enjoyed the food and how impressed I was with a few things, he smiled a big smile and said "Thank you, I will tell my Mom". That just struck us as really precious. My wife noticed a scripture on the wall as we were leaving. It was Isaiah 54:17 "No weapon formed against you shall prosper". That explained a LOT about this place. I believe they have likely stood on that scripture for a long time and that's why this business will stand the test of time and everything thrown at it. Thank you SO MUCH for showing us not only an amazing meal, but some simple kindness and love we didn't necessarily feel down in New Orleans...

Beef tips were amazing. Loved the greens as well.

This hidden gem is delicious. Don't sleep on this place. Baked chicken, ribs, fried pork chops, squash (phenomenal), homemade mac and cheese, rice and gravy, and the sweet tea! Also, the way they got their start was truly a blessing. God's plans are always bigger than ours. ♡
